This weekend was a VERY busy weekend, but O so much fun!  Friday started off with 

Taste of Addison!  Its a huge Food & Music festival that is literally out our front door.  It's a complete blast and the food is pretty amazing too!

An artist from Oklahoma had a booth with tons of pieces made out of vintage plates.  Jac and I couldn't resist.  She got a Texas, I got the OK and we both got a BU.  

They're amazing.

There was a huge concert out on the lawn.  Of course Friday night (the only night we could go) was country night...not my fav, but live music is always great.  We saw Wade Bowen (not terrible) and Casey Donahew Band (a little too country for my liking).  People were all drunkenly two-steppin all over each other.

Concert Fever!

I've been bit by the concert bug....and it's bad.  To say I love music is an understatement.  Not everyone shares my awesome music tastes (tragic really), but I decided to bombard you with it anyways.  This past weekend was a major music filled weekend!  Friday night I went to the Norman Music Festival (a yearly tradition with my sweet friend Christie) and it did not disappoint.  Well other than the fact that the lead singer of the main band we were going to see canceled the show...supposedly overdosed...kind of puts a damper on things.  Now my favorite part is not the music.  O no....its the people watching.  NMF brings out Oklahoma's finest!  Lots of hair colors, awkwardly placed piercings, dreads, interesting clothing, lack of clothing....you know the works.  Sadly I did not get any pictures.  For that you have my sincerest apologies because you sure are missing out!

Then on Saturday one of my best friends, Brian, took me to one of my favorite bands...

The Black Keys!

  

They really put on one of the best shows I've been to in a while.  Plus they had a ginormous disco ball...you can never go wrong with a disco ball.

And this concert has started concert fever.

Happy Easter!

Easter is one of my favorite holidays! Most likely because it means lots and lots of

CANDY!!!

If you know me at all, then you know I have an insatiable sweet tooth. I just can't help myself. And Easter time means 2 of my favorite candies are out.

Cadberry Mini Eggs

To call this an obsession might be a little bit of an understatement. I kid you not it's the first thing I think of when I wake up, I grab a handful the moment I walk in the door before I even put down my keys, and I even stay up late (which is rare) just to eat more eggs. If you've never tried these then please, for the sake of mankind, go to the nearest store and buy a bag. You just might find you love them.

Seasonal Reeses

(emphasis on the seasonal part)

Now you don't have to discriminate between the seasons. The pumpkins, christmas trees and hearts are just as delicious! It trumps the regular Reeses Peanut Butter Cups because there is a different peanut butter-to-chocolate ratio in the seasonal Reeses and it is pure perfection. Mmmm....my tummy is growling just thinking about it.

Kinder Bueno!

I first laid eyes on this delectable little candy when I was vacationing in Europe in 4th grade. O my word if you like hazelnut then you will LOVE this. For a very long time I could only get this candy when I went back to Europe (which wasn't nearly often enough). THEN a wonderful moment happened in my life. I was introduced to World Market. Please go there now...and buy me some Kinder Bueno. I'll love you forever.

How bad is this obsession? BAD. Last year I thought "Hey it's Lent...I should give up something I love." So logically I gave up sweets. Quite possibly the most idiotic thing I've ever attempted. I made it a whopping 2 weeks (which no lie felt like 2 years). Then when I splurged, I splurged BIG. So BIG I went to Walgreens and spent $50 on candy and ate it within 1 week! Yeah thats embarrassing. Just thought you should know.

Super Fantastic Randomness that I Fancy

This week has been simply wonderful. On one of my walks I started thinking about all the little things I've recently discovered and now I can't live without. So I thought I would share.

1. Warby Parker Glasses

Where was this website when I was in college?!? It's the absolute greatest concept. I purchased 2 pairs of glasses and am slightly obsessed (might be an understatement). There are so many great reasons why and I just don't know where to start.

A. They cost $95....SUH-WEET!

B. They will send you 4 pairs of your choosing for a 5-day trial run. They even send you a return label so you don't even have to pay for mailing them back. Some bigger cities have stores that have all the frames in stock and you can try them all on. Tulsa was not one of those places.

C. Once you decide on the frame(s) you want (because you won't be able to narrow it down to one), you just plug in your prescription on the website and your glasses arrive within the week. Voila!

Want to know the BEST part?!?

D. For every pair you buy, they provide a pair of glasses to someone in need. Amazing, right? So really you're giving while you're getting.

2. Workout Trainer App

This app for your iPhone is annoyingly awesome. Honestly I did it today for the first time. Holy Hotness Batman it kicked my you know what....and I was only on the moderate level! I completed the "Natural Booty Pops" program (the name was just too appealing to pass up) and I'm pretty sure my booty is still twitching from the massacre it just endured.

It's kind of nice having someone tell you what to do, even if its a creepy robotic woman who tries to say randomly funny things like "Hey you...baby got back." I happen to fancy robots so I quite enjoy her lack of inflection. O and did I mention the app is free? Ahhh yes...I only do free. Give it a try....please....misery loves company.

3. 200 Squats

Yeah....What was I thinking?!? Well I'll tell you. I've got a Florida trip coming up this summer. And that means swim suits. If only the world thought swimming in yoga pants was acceptable, but I hear it's frowned upon. Therefore, I shall get to 200 squats some how some way. It starts you off with just a few a day and you work your way up. Honestly I think it had me do a total of 50-ish the first day and it wasn't tough...2 days later I could hardly walk. So we'll see how this ends up working out. Wish me luck. Lots and lots of luck!

4. Fit Bit

Coolest gadget ever....and I don't even own one. Okay lets back up. Pedometers are the bomb (and yes jaclyn..."the bomb" will be used often in our apt and you'll start loving it). The past 2 weeks I've worn a pedometer and it's amazing how it will change your mindset. Lets just say this old gal takes the stairs these days :)

Here are a few meaningless facts...

1. You should walk 10,000 steps a day MINIMUM

2. That only takes 1.5 hours of brisk walking

3. 30 minutes of walking is about 4,000 steps which burns around 200 calories.

4. A semi-active job only leaves you with about 4-5,000 steps for the day (not nearly enough!)

5. Walking makes you a nicer person (that might not be a fact...but it sounds good, right?)

So on to the FitBit. Its very pricey, but it just might be worth it. It monitors you practically 24 hours a day (if you wear it like you should). It works like Wii technology (3-D) which is more accurate than other pedometers. It shows how many steps, calories burned, distance traveled and how many flights of stairs you've completed. It also tracks your sleep patterns - it tells you when you fell asleep, how many times you woke up and how long you slept for. Pretty awesome if you ask me. You can also see your friends progress and have a little good natured competition with them! Have I sold you on this yet?!?

5. Flowers...

This is the wonderful flower & plant creation my mom sent me 3 WEEKS AGO when I started my new job. It is quite the champ! It looks prettier and prettier every day. Thanks mamma and Tim!

ONE WEEK DOWN!

So I've been in Dallas for a little over a week and I have loved absolutely every minute of it! The job is going wonderfully well. I work at a rehabilitation hospital and it's only about 15 minutes away from downtown. The job is fantastic and exactly what I was looking for! God is so good!

The weekend before I moved down here I found this little gem loitering around my car. Of course I lured him over with treats and saw he had a collar but NO tags. Excellent. So Humphrey and I walked the neighborhood for a few hours thinking someone would be looking for this sweet-natured-kind-of-scary-looking-pupster. Nope...no one. So I called every shelter in the Tulsa area - that was a big miss. No place was willing to take him. So my sister (the biggest dog lover EVER) came to the rescue - Thanks Mighty Stepherdite. She let me keep him in her back yard, re-named him Stanley (I guess Humphrey was too cool) and kept him all week - not to mention she is highly allergic to dogs. He turned out to be a Houdini and escaped the back yard. She saw him trotting down a major street in Broken Arrow. Luckily all the good Tulsa samaritans pulled over to help her chase Stanley...even a motor cycle gang! Later the next week the owner finally decided to look at the paper and found an add I left and Stanley was reunited with his family.

Moral of the story - Put ID tags on your pets!!!

And they really should be chipped too :)

Anywho...

The move went well. I don't know if it qualifies as a move quite yet. 75% of my things are still in Tulsa in a storage unit. I just packed a few things and am staying at my dad's apt downtown. I guess I loved moving back in with my parents so much that I thought I would give the other set a try ;) It's been nice, but I'm excited to get my own apartment hopefully soon!

Things I've been enjoying:

- Walking everywhere! I LOVE it.

- Super yummy delicious places to eat.

- Reuniting with good friends

But I do sure miss this sweet face :(

Finished my last day in Kiddy-Land today. Just in case you're in the dark...the last 6 months I've been working as a Speech-Language Pathologist at a Pediatric Clinic. Really it was quite a humbling experience and I learned a lot about myself. Most of the kids were amazing and I hope to remember their wise words forever...so I'm keeping track of them here!

My favorite kids really made my final week quite special.

L: O you didn't hear? They closed Texas. I'm surprised they didn't e-mail you.

Out of Hiding

I've had 6 wonderful months spent at home with my absolutely super-fantastic parents. Contrary to everyone's beliefs - living with your parents as an adult is the bomb. I LOVED it and am pretty sure the only thing encouraging me to move out now is the prospect that I will end up 45 and single with many many cats lingering around the house. I mean that could totally still happen...but at least not in my rent's house. The one and only downside is that I completely reverted back to a teenager. I somehow forgot how to clean my room, do my laundry in a timely manner, accomplish anything after work or clean house...ever. I'm typically a very clean and neat person, but somehow that trait vanished the moment I moved back in the house. No rent, dinner on the table when I get home, not having to wake up early to take my puppy out (thanks Timmy), always having company, having someone take care of me when I'm sick....wait....do I really want to move out?!?

In one week I will be starting an incredibly exciting new chapter - at a new job, in a new city, in a new state. I'm not scared...yet, but just overwhelmed with excitement. My parents have been so supportive of this, which has made this such an easy decision. I have fought this next part long enough....years even...I'm officially going to be a....be a....be a....Texan. That hurt a little bit. I have flip-flopped between these 2 wonderful states quite a bit - grew up in Oklahoma, undergrad in Texas, grad school in Oklahoma, fellowship in Texas, next job in Oklahoma, and now back to Texas. Seriously...do I have commitment issues or something?!? Very possible. I'm very serious about setting down some roots this time...so serious I'm actually going to get a Texas drivers license! Woah I know I'm getting a little crazy here. One step at a time Ash.

So I have started this blog back up for my dear sweet momma so she can keep her eye on me. I love her very much and am so thankful she's allowed me to this 6 months to spend a crazy amount of time with her. First time we've lived together in 8 years and we didn't miss a beat. And mom - distance doesn't change a thing. We'll still be best friends :) And you are always more than welcome to come visit me when I'm ill...or want to shop...or you just miss me :)

Week(s) in Review

There has been so much going on since I moved home and almost all of it has been great fun.

First up - Bachelorette party for Audra! Clearly Al and I were super excited. So excited we had to give a "thumbs up" pic.

Then...

On my way to the rehearsal dinner a sweet little old lady ran into me. She thought she hit a curb so she drove off. Really?!? I mean REALLY?!? Does that look like she hit a curb? Yeah didn't think so. Don't worry...I chased her down. Maybe it's time for her to stop driving.

The best part is she called me a few days later all mad because the officer gave her a "unsafe lane change" ticket. She was shocked. She said "How was it unsafe?!? I had on my blinker!"

Lady you RAN INTO ME! That would be the "unsafe" part.

Then....it was time for Audra's beautiful wedding! What was my favorite part?!? Glad you asked. It was the ice cream truck that kept driving around with it's music on. I think it gave the wedding a certain something that no other wedding can now compete with.

Took the plunge and got highlights again! I know...you're squealing with excitement!

HAPPY OCTOBER!!!

I'm Back!

So I've returned to my wonderful hometown...

I never thought I would miss Tulsa as much as I did. It's a wonderful place and it is home. It's great to be back around friends and family and just in time for Fall! The weather has been amazing ever since I came home. We have been blessed with storms and crisp, Fall weather. Add a Pumpkin Spice Latte and I am good to go!

I already miss Amarillo and the hospital. I have to get back into the medical setting! I'm going a little crazy...and it's been only 3 weeks. I'm currently a speech pathologist at a pediatric private practice in Owasso and the kids are great, but I really really miss my adults! I miss being able to work with pediatrics and adults - inpatients and outpatients. You can NEVER EVER be bored with all that going on!

I have made one goal since moving home (this is the millionth time I've set this goal)...to learn how to cook! I know, I know...you're thinking this is an impossible feat and you might be right. But so far so good. I immediately went out and purchased a REAL cook book!

And I'm obsessed with her. 60% because she is from Oklahoma, 40% because she is straight up the bomb. I'm only on week #2 of cooking but I'm 2 for 2 right now. Pretty sure the rents wouldn't tell me if it was bad. They don't want to deter me from this challenge!

This dish is the super amazing and it gets better as you re-heat it. Pretty sure my step dad lived off of it for a few days...but that must mean its good, right?!?

I actually hate cooked apples. Well...I thought I did, until I had this. O my it is wonderful. And nutritious...well kinda. Come on it has apples in it!

This was great and for some reasons my calzones were ginormous (yes thats a word). This was great for dinner, but even better for breakfast! It's like super awesome sausage roles.

And if you drop it....then...okay just don't drop it. I can't bare tell you what happens.

I'm Thankful For....

So much to be thankful for I thought I would share...

1. Sleep...I love it. I do it often. Lets face it...I'm thankful for it.
2. That my sweet friend Emily Dupuis Powell has made it Full Term without any complications. God is Good!
3. That the Easter Bunny AND Santa still visit me even though I'm 25.
4. That I have 4 parents and they all offered me major HELP during my job search time just so I could relax and pick the job thats right for me without rushing into anything. Thanks rents!
5. Obviously Ruby...you knew that was coming.
6. That God has a plan and the plan is in His hands. Somehow it just takes ALL the worry off your shoulders.
7. Having the BEST best friends a girl could ask for.
8. Laughing...funnest thing ever.
9. Having the boss let me have Friday off so I could get home (Tulsa) sooner...15 minutes after I drove in a horrendous storm hit Tulsa. Thank goodness I just missed it!

For example (and this may or may not have really happened): seeing my crush walking down the hall in the hospital and literally running (yes running) down the hall in the opposite direction so he couldn't tell I was blushing. This also might have happened on more than one occasion. But like I said...this may or may not have happened :)

Still On The Hunt

I'm Back!

I know I fell off the face of the earth for a little while, but fear not I have returned.

Well I made one BIG decision and I honestly feel it was the right one. I decided not to take the job I was considering taking. It just wasn't sitting right with me and I thought that might be God's sign that it was a no-go. Sometimes He has to kick me in the butt to make me listen.

Now what I think I want changes on a daily basis and often times changes a few times within a day. As of now I want to work in a pediatric clinic in Tulsa and I'm really excited about that possibility! I miss Tulsa dearly and thats where my family (well most of them) are. As much as I love the BIG cities with all the excitement that goes on in them, family truly is more important to me. Hey I can always visit those places, right?!? Hopefully one of these days I'll meet a sweet little fella and will have a sweet little family and I want that family to be in Tulsa.

So for now I remain in Amarillo job hunting. Sheesh I hate job hunting. It's the pits. I really will miss Texas when it's time to go, but I'm ready to get back to Tornado filled weather and humidity that melts your face off.

BIG Decisions....I don't like them

Ugh...I hate making decisions.

I am a very indecisive person...ask anyone. Where do you want to go to dinner? I don't care. What movie do you want to see? I don't care. What do you want to do tonight? I don't care. And the thing is I REALLY DON'T CARE! I just go with the flow.

My internship is over this month and I had made the decision a few months back that I wanted to leave Amarillo and get closer to home. Everyone knows job hunting is no fun. So I began that process. I'm trying to figure out the things I "want", but none of them seem to fit together. I "want" to live by my mom. I "want" to work in a rehab. I "want" to live by my best friend Jaclyn. The only problem is all 3 of those options are in completely different cities.

And then once I start looking elsewhere, I realize I've really grown quite attached to where I'm at. Amarillo I could live without. The hospital I work at and the people I work with will be quite hard to live without. Now I don't "want" to leave them. So add that to the "want/don't want" list.

And trust me...I've prayed, and prayed, and prayed...and prayed some more about this. And really the biggest feeling I've gotten about accepting a job has been "I don't care". Thats not the feeling you want when you're making a huge life changing decision! So I have to make a decision by tomorrow and I'm hoping my "I don't care" attitude will change and the decision God wants me to make will become clear. To take the job or not take the job...THAT is the question!

Living up to the Wanderlust name!

#1 favorite thing to do of ALL time:

TRAVEL

I can't help it. The traveling bug bit me at the ripe age of....uhhh...well I was so young I can't even remember how young I was, so it must have been way young. I was so incredibly blessed that my parents allowed me to go anywhere and everywhere that the wind blew me. I always think "Why o Why did I pick an occupation where you don't need to travel at all?!?" So since I didn't pick an occupation where I can feed my traveling urge, I'm going with plan B (which has yet to work out)....marry rich so I don't have to work and I can just travel the world!!!

Don't judge me...you would do it too.

A few weekends ago was Dallas. One word - amazing. The weekend after that my brother and I joined my dad in Sin City! Lets just say there were some beyond awkward moments. O don't you fret - you will hear all about it.

On Friday night I arrived in Dallas around 8:30 to a welcoming crew who had started drinking the moment they boarded the plane from Dallas. Wonderful. They both tried to play it off but genetics are cruel and you could spy their rosy colored cheeks from across the airport!

Once we got to the hotel we had a fabulous dinner at a placed called the Red Door (or something to that effect) and then went to the House of Blues. Now this was by far Adam's highlight of the entire trip! We saw Steel Panther, which is an 80's Hair Band Cover Group. He literally did not shut up the entire weekend about feeling like this was his calling. Lets hope thats not true. Had I been with anyone other than family this might have been an enjoyable experience. But they really liked to talk about the P word....and the D word....and what the D word would do to the P word....Okay okay you get my drift.

Ready for awkward moment numero dos?!? That would be our lovely next door neighbors that felt the need to broadcast their sexcapades from 3:00 - 5:00 in the morning! We all pretended to sleep because we didn't want to acknowledge the fact that we knew what was going on. And we were also toying with calling the police because it literally sounded like she was dying/crying/laughing/hurting/etc. Awkward.

The GQ men before we went to the Cirque show LOVE, which I LOVED!!!

(Side note: if you do go to Vegas, I would recommend the Cirque show KA - it's beyond incredible and action packed)

On Sunday we went to an Indoor Sky Diving place. AMAZING!

We don't have any pictures from that (rats!), but I have to say we were pros!

Sunday night we went to the Cirque show Zumanity.

AWKWARD MOMENT #3!

WARNING: Never EVER go to this with your family members.

Here is a brief preview: Your MC is a tranny (who was hilarious and I loved), you see so many body parts that you actually forget that you're seeing body parts, there is a flying midget (also a highlight), but the noises....o the noises are the worst part! Lets just say you could listen to what was going on and know EXACTLY what was going on. Ewww....

Later Sunday night the boys and I went to New York New York which was great fun. This might be my favorite part of the trip. Let me preface this story with the fact that Adam HATES roller coasters and heights. Well I was dying to go on the New York New York roller coaster and as a joke I asked Adam & dad to go on it. Without hesitation Adam said yes! I was shocked. I figured it was the alcohol that was giving him a brave buzz but I wasn't going to fight it. We got into the seats and began the ascent to the first big dive...

Adam: Holy Explicative....THIS IS A REAL ROLLER COASTER!!!!

Ash: What?!? Of course it is!

Adam: What the explicative...explicative....explicative....etc.

Turns out he saw a dinky roller coaster going throughout the casino that just takes people on little tours. He had no idea there was a real one! Turned out he loved it once it was all said and done. So worth it.

So clearly what happens in Vegas does not stay there and maybe it should, but I have a big mouth and thought you all should know. So there.
